Family Gymnastics Night

Monday was Family Fun Night at Head Over Heels were Lillian takes gymnastics. All families were welcome to come and watch and play with their little ones on the gymnastics floor. They had seven different stations set up and your child was free to go to which ever station they wanted-Lillian pretty much wanted to stay at the foam pit station the whole time. We had a great time and were excited to see a lot of other families we had invited there. Lillian loves gymnastics and she was excited to get to show Shaun all of her tumbles she has learned and how "brave" she was to jump into the foam pit.

It's A Boy!

Well, yes it was a boy...obviously. It has just taken me almost a year to really accept it. Not that I wasn't thrilled to find out that we were expecting a sweet little boy, because I was! I felt overwhelmed with joy the day Shaun and I found out that God had blessed us with a son. However, I am not a fan of boy stuff. I wanted his room to be soft and sweet with greens and yellows. Poor Shaun embrassed everything pink and purple when we found out Lillian was a girl, but I fought against everything that was not pastle when it came to decorating John Whitten's room. 

Obviously Shaun wanted to paint John Whitten's nursery blue and plaster the walls with Auburn pennants and every sports related item you could think of, but because of our moving/renting situation we decided to just hold off until we knew what our next step was going to be. Now that we are in our new and permanent house we decided to really give our sweet "baby" boy a little boy room. I told Shaun that I was fine with it as long as it was a sweet blue and not an overwhelming blue, blue. He picked out the perfect shade and had the room painted in a few hours. I have to admit that it looks really good and matches all of his green and yellow decor.

In everything we do there is always an opportunity to learn. Shaun stopped painting a spent ten minutes going over Lillian's letters with her. Reason eight million why I think he is amazing Daddy!

we spotted this in and antique store in Homewood. Shaun loved it and thought it would be perfect in John Whitten's room. It is his first "real" boy decor...Shaun loves it.

Long Days, Short Years

In describing motherhood, someone once said to me, “The days are long, but the years are short.”  I believe this paints an incredibly accurate picture of my life right now. My days feel so drawn out at times, but then the night comes and I lay down with my little girl and I wonder when she got so big. I rock my son and I lose my breath at the realization that his first birthday is right around the corner. It feels like just yesterday that we brought Lillian home from the hospital, let alone our baby boy.


I blog for many different reasons. I blog to share cute stories and pictures with our family and friends. I blog to remember the little moments that otherwise would have just gotten lost in the hustle and bustle of our day. Sometimes I just blog to quite the noise in my own head. But today I am blogging to remind myself that this is merely a season of my life, and I should appreciate every moment of it because soon the seasons will change. 

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.

Bath Time Fun With My Water Babies

Lillian and John Whitten LOVE to take baths. I think the word love might not even be strong enough to really convey how much they enjoy bath time. Often Lillian will take a bath during the day just because...it has really become like any other activity in our house-painting, coloring, bathing. But then again most people know how much she enjoys being naked, so it only makes sense that she would love baths. John Whitten would stay in the bath tub all day if I would let him. As soon as I pull him out of the bath tub he tries to throw himself out of my arms and back in. And during the day he is always trying to sneak into the bathroom when I am not looking. Tonight they were so cute playing together that I couldn't help myself, so I took  a million pictures of the cute tushys!!!

Tuesday Fun

The kids and I usually spend our evenings dancing around our kitchen while I cook dinner. It has been almost a month since Shaun has actually been home for dinner, so tonight when he walked in at 6:00 while we were dancing/cooking we were pretty excited for him to join right in. This post will probably embarrass him a little, but one my favorite things about Shaun and about our family is just how goofy we are with each other. I love this little life that we have built together over these past four years. I love the dancing in the kitchen, the bedtime stories, the family cuddles in our bed, the evening trips to the park, the prayers, the love, the silliness. I am so grateful for this life and praise God for giving us the opportunity to serve Him everyday.

Children's Theater- Jack And The Beanstalk

This morning the kids and I met some wonderful friends downtown at the Birmingham Children's Theater to see Jack an the Beanstalk; it was great! I had been wanting to take Lillian there for a long time now, but was always worried that she wouldn't be able to sit through a little play. I am glad that I waited just because I think she got more out of the experience. She really enjoy it and even John Whitten would stop crawling around to watch a minute or two of the show. Every time the giant came out his eyes would get so big and he would stop and watch him. Afterwards we stayed and had a quick little picnic before heading home for a couple of much needed naps!
