Summer Time Fun

The kids and I have spent the last two days at the pool swimming, splashing and just having fun! Yesterday we went over to my friend Jenny's neighborhood pool and spent the morning hanging out there. We got out there early and where the only ones there for a little while. Lillian and Eli Ellison had a great time jumping into the pool; I think Lillian could have done that all day if I had let her. Did I mention that Jenny lives right across the street from their pool! It is so nice because when we were done swimming we just walked across the street, fed the kids lunch and then let them play in the backyard before heading home for naps. Today we packed a picnic and headed to the Homewood pool with Alli and her boys. Lillian was so excited because not only did we get to see her favorite teacher, Ms Ann and Ms Frances Ann, but we also saw three of her All Saints' friends!  With temperatures reaching 100 degrees these past couple of days we have definitely been enjoying the water. I am pretty sure that we are going to have many more hot summer days ahead, so it goes without saying that we will be living in out swimsuits!

One of my favorite things about summer is how my babies smell. I know that sounds weird, but in the afternoon when I am rocking John Whitten to sleep he smells so perfect. His face smells warm and sweet, his hair is soft but greasy with sunscreen. He breaths heavy on my chest because he is so worn out from playing in the pool all morning. After I lay him down I sneak into Lillian's room and lay next to her for a while. She usually is still awake and will just lay there quietly staring back at me. She lays her sweet little hand on my face while I play with he ear. Her checks are pink from the sun and her hair is more curly than ever because of the humidity. Today while I was laying with her she lend in and gave me the sweetest kiss on my nose. Those are the moments I live for....I love spending these summer days playing with my babies. Sucking every bit of them in that I can, because I know that it wont be long before there are summer camps and night away with friends. I know that there won't be many more summers of rocking my sweet boy to sleep or laying with Lillian while she rubs my check with her little hand. I am so thankful for these days with them.
