My 20 Month Old Boy

While our first baby was turning four years old on May 15th, our other baby was turning 20 months old. I cannot believe that John Whitten's second birthday is just around the corner. This little guys has been keeping us on our toes lately with all of his climbing and getting into things. He can climb up on pretty much anything and sometimes it seems almost impossible to keep and eye on him. John Whitten is all boy and is obsessed with balls of any kind, or even just anything that resembles a ball for that matter. He LOVES his big sister and copies everything that she does, and recently has started trying to say every word she says. It is so cute to watch them interact with each other and I am hoping that some of Lillian's calmness is wearing off on her very active little brother. Just over these last few weeks John Whitten's vocabulary has completely exploded and he says a new word every day it seems like. He loves to have books read to him, and will sit in your lap for as long as you keep reading. He loves to swim and loves the little kiddie pool that we have. And just like his sister this little boy loves to swing. He also loves to say, "oh no, Mamma", it is the cutest thing. And he will sit outside on our front porch and wave to every car that goes by. Of course a boy always loves his dog, and John Whitten and Jack are best friends(most of the time). We cannot leave the house without saying "bye-bye ack" at least ten times. And that includes chasing poor Jack down to give him a hug and kiss.

John Whitten is doing much better with the whole eating thing since his surgery was in March. He still doesn't eat like a "normal" kid, but for us his progress blows us away. He is still nursing more than I want him to, and Shaun and I have been tossing around the idea of weaning him. I think the only way I will be able to wean him is for me and Lillian to have a little girls trip to Nashville and leave the boys to do boy things. Hopefully the time away from me will get John Whitten to wean cold turkey. Who knows, we will see how it goes.

All I know is that having a boy has turned our world upside down in so many ways. I know that people always say raising boys and girls are so different, but you don't really believe it until you have a boy. He challenges me in completely different ways than Lillian challenged me at this age. He deals with his emotions in a different way and he expresses his emotions differently too. All I know is that I am so happy that I get experience life through my rough and tumble little boy's eyes. It is one adventure after another.

this sweet face melts me

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up...

I'll need your tips on raising a boy since all I know is how to raise a little girl!
